Join the band!

Membership of the band is open to anyone from 14 to 99 however, we do ask that those younger than 17 are accompanied by a parent or guardian for rehearsals and concerts. We do not hold formal auditions but we would normally expect musicians to be of a decent standard.

We play a wide variety of music, some of which is considered advanced secondary school level. Band Uniform is provided as well as training for our Marching Band events.

The Horndean Band is always actively recruiting new members whatever the instrument, however, we do require the following instrumental categories to improve the overall balance of the group.

These requirements are as follows:

  • Oboe
  • Clarinet
  • Bassoon
  • French Horn
  • Trumpet/Cornet
  • Trombone
  • Tuned Percussion
  • Timpani

The Band practices from 7:30pm – 9:30pm every Wednesday evening at Southwick Park (previously known as HMS Dryad) just north of Portsmouth. This is a military establishment, so entry is by a prearranged permit.

We are lucky enough to have been given our own rehearsal room along with a refreshment and seating area for socialising. There is ample parking right outside the building and the band room is located on the first floor accessed by its own stairs and entrance.

We ask all band members for a weekly payment of £1 and an annual payment of £30 taken at the start of the financial year.
These funds are to help offset the costs of running the band.

If you are interested in coming along to a rehearsal please contact our Bandmaster, Andy Hinton on 07980 830234 or contact him via email
